Unit 21 Market Hall , Chesterfield , S40 1AR
Fairplay is always keen to develop new services for its members. They opened the Fairplay Gift Emporium in 2018. The aim of the Gift Emporium is to give young people with learning disabilities the opportunity to learn valuable employment skills in a safe, supportive environment.
Fairplay had looked for suitable premises for many months and jumped at the offer of the unit on the side of the market hall in Chesterfield. (Opposite the Peacock café). The shop is in a great location as there is a lot of footfall around the market hall. The young people hope that the lovely range of gifts will encourage people to shop with them and support the young people in their exciting venture.
There is a great range of products for sale including cards, scarves, soaps, mugs, tea towels and so many other wonderful gifts. We love going to shop at the Gift Emporium and always come out smiling with a bag full.
We attended an Art Exhibition at the Gift Emporium in 2019 that showcased the outstanding works created by Kara Jane Spencer, a young lady suffering from severe M.E. Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (M.E.) is a long-term (chronic), fluctuating, neurological condition that causes symptoms affecting many body systems, more commonly the nervous and immune systems. M.E. affects an estimated 250,000 people in the UK, and around 17 million people worldwide. People with M.E. experience debilitating pain, fatigue and a range of other symptoms associated with post-exertional malaise, the body and brain’s inability to recover after expending even small amounts of energy.

After many requests, it was made into a youtube video with many of her paintings helping to tell her story - so that it can continue to be enjoyed and inspired. Kara say’s “Thank you to everyone who has supported her in her artistic endeavours.”
