Fairview House

In 2013, Fairplay acquired Fairview House on Sheffield Road to extend its services to young people. A two-storey Victorian building with large rooms and high ceilings, Fairview is now the centre of Fairplay’s 18+ activities. The principal focus at Fairview is on providing young adults with the practical and emotional skills needed for independent living.

For a small group – the ‘Moving Forward’ group – this can eventually mean they are able to move into a home of their own. A huge achievement which most of us take for granted. Fairplay runs a wide range of courses at Fairview House including cooking, budgeting and ‘feeling and friendship’. A range of ASDAN courses, including one on local history, are also provided. There is a strong emphasis on socialisation with walking groups, film nights and trips to venues such as Cadbury World, Yorkshire Wildlife Park and Sea Life.

Fairview provides Fairplay with the facilities for overnight stays. For young adults these are ‘sleepovers’; for parents they are much needed respite care. Up to six residents can stay over at any one time. The Fairview young adults group currently consists of between 65-70 members.

It is a friendly, energetic and, at times, constructively chaotic environment! Fairplay is extremely proud of its young adults, the progress they make, and the ‘role models’ they provide for our children and young people.

Fairview House offers Afternoon Tea to friends, family and the public on selected Mondays throughout the year between 1-3pm. All of the food and drinks are prepared and made by the young people and the event is also serviced and hosted by them. We have attended several of these afternoon teas and have taken many of our friends and family along with us. We have all been blown away with the experience. Honestly, the cakes and scones are some of the best we have ever tasted. The cheese straws are amazing too but most of all the service and friendly atmosphere they have created is exceptional. Well done to all the young adults at Fairview House for putting on such wonderful afternoon teas. There is no set price for the afternoon tea, just donations, which helps to cover the costs of putting on the afternoon tea and hopefully generates some further funds for the charity.

We love attending and supporting these events.
