Fairplay

Fairplay supports children and young people with disabilities and additional needs, and their families, across North Derbyshire.

Fairplay offers a wide range of services to meet the needs of families. They offer support to children and young people, aged 0-25, and to parents and siblings. Fairplay runs play schemes and Saturday clubs for children, youth clubs, activity days, themed groups, and independent living groups for young people, and parent support groups and family trips for parents and siblings.

In conjunction with the Clinical Commissioning Groups and a specialist Community Childrens Nurse, Fairplay provides a home-based care service for children with complex health care needs that may be life-threatening or life-limiting. The service provides a child-centred flexible service that meets the needs of the child and the family.

Fairplays services offer families the support that they need and gives them opportunities to take part in positive experiences that make a real difference to their lives. They enable parents to have valuable respite from 24 hour care and give children and young people the opportunity to develop a wide range of life skills.

Fairplay offers services from its purpose built centre in Chesterfield and also from outreach venues in Bolsover.

Getting involved

I first heard about Fairplay in early 2005 through a women’s charitable organisation, Soroptomists, that I was then a member of who support various charitable organisations.

As a Soroptimist, I accepted an invitation to visit the Fairplay centre for a celebration of the 5th Anniversary of their new premises and immediately felt that this was a local charity that was making a real difference in the local community and I would really like to support.

The following year, after attending several events and the Charity becoming part of a local business network that I am involved with, I was asked to become a trustee of the Charity. I took on this role in October 2017 and have become more involved as a result.

It is a true privilege to support a wonderful local charity and see the amazing work that is taking place in my local Community supporting not just children but young adults become the best they can. Being involved with the Fairplay Gift Emporium and Fairview House is helping these young people gain work experience in a safe environment and seeing them grow in ability and confidence to prepare them for adulthood is truly remarkable.

Being part of this organisation provides myself and my Team with the opportunity to give something back to society in a constructive and positive way and we continue to see Fairplay survive and thrive along with it’s members.

This was when we presented Fairplay with a cheque of £2,500 that we were able to acquire through the St. James's Place charitable Trust.
